So, Thursday afternoon, Riley started saying that it was, "owie" when she would go potty and then when I wiped her. I knew that she had a UTI...Aydia has reflux in her ureters and had been in the hospital 7 months ago for a UTI and they told me that it was generally a hereditary thing and Riley would probably show up with a UTI sooner or later. I just signed Riley up on Medicaid and hadn't received my papers yet and so I went through hours on the phone trying to figure out where I should take her. Finally they told me to go see Dr. Kassab in Garland, TX. I called and they were closed, so Friday morning at 9 I call back to make an appointment and the receptionist (who was very rude) said, "When do you want to come in, pick your time." So I pick 11. We head on over and as soon as I walk in, the place is filthy and smells nasty. I go to the front desk and the receptionist is on her cell phone talking to her friend about Babies R Us and doesn't even take the phone away from her ear to talk to me. We fill out our papers and wait. The receptionist opens the door and says, "Ok, come on back." It turns out, she is the nurse as well. We walk through the doors and into a small room only to find a much more pungent smell. The nurse/receptionist asks a couple of questions and says, "The doctor will be right in." In walks this old, white haired man and he proceeds to ask a couple of questions, as best as he can seeing as he does not speak much English. He hands me a thermometer and says, "Here mom, take her temperature, I will be back in a couple of minutes." I am thinking where is the nurse, why am I doing this? Turns out, she is back on her cell phone talking about Babies R Us. The doctor comes back in and asks me what her temp was...didn't even look for himself. Then he tells me that he needs to look at her...you know what. I pull her pants off and lay her across my lap (I was not about to lay her on the bed that had just a regular sheet on it that I am sure has NEVER been washed). He didn't wash his hands or put gloves on and begins to touch her legs, I look down at his hands and notice that there is dirty filth underneath his fingernails. Luckily, he only touched her leg for a couple of seconds. Then, he asks, "Do you think she would pee in a cup?" "Yes, I think she would," I say. He goes out to the desk directly outside of my room and begins to rummage around for something. He picks up a styrofoam cup and dumps out it's contents and hands it to me saying, "Here, the bathroom is over there." I look into this cup and it has dirty filth all around the rim and still has some dark liquid in the bottom of it. Are you freaking kidding me? I set the cup down and RAN. I felt like I was in a third world country or something. I could not even believe that had just happened in America...Garland, TX of all places.
I took her somewhere else and they confirmed that she has a UTI and is on meds and feeling much better! Here are some pics to end it out!

How frustrating. Sorry that you had to be put in that situation. I hope that Riley starts feeling better soon! UTI's are the worst!
Sounds ghetto. I'm glad you got her taken care of. UTI's are so uncomfortable. :(
ps I found your blog while leaving a comment at Dooce. Random. But I'm glad I did. :)
That sounds horrible!!! I'm so sorry you had to go through that but i'm glad the problem is fixed and she is feeling much better, now hopefully that place will be shut down!

Just ready to meet him and i'm just to that uncomfortable point where your stomach gets in the way esp. when your 21 month old is using u as a jungle gym, i'm sure you understand! I am so lucky to have Lindsey, it is so much fun living so close! Thanks for commenting on my blog! again, i hate that you had to go through that!
